InterPRO Honored with Sikorsky STEM Challenge Invitation
InterPRO, a leader in rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, and CNC machining today announced its Connecticut Corsair Industry Partnership with the Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Challenge.

DEEP RIVER, CT, November 09, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- InterPRO, a leader in rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, CNC machining and low-volume production services, today announced its Connecticut Corsair Industry Partnership with the Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Challenge.

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, in conjunction with Connecticut Innovations and Connecticut Corsair is sponsoring the challenge for high school students. The project kicked off on in early August and will continue throughout the school year.

"This is a unique opportunity to contribute to students' education and to the development of our future workforce in Connecticut." said Kevin Dyer, president and CEO. "Mentoring opportunities like the STEM Challenge are vital in creating long term relationships that empower our state's economy and surrounding communities. We are honored by the invitation and our staff is thrilled to be engaged."

Student teams will compete, with mentoring from members of the partnership, to solve a design challenge related to restoration of the official State Aircraft of Connecticut, the F4U-4 Corsair. A lack of technical data on the aircraft's fuselage, wings, and landing gear, is preventing replacement of damaged or corroded components. After conducting a study of the original drawings and specifications, the teams will be assigned a challenge problem related to one component/assembly requiring restoration. Using state-of-the-art design and analysis tools, the teams will create a modern technical data package that will enable fabrication and assembly using current manufacturing techniques. The winning solution will be provided to Connecticut companies for manufacture and integration into the aircraft.

The challenge culminates with presentations by competing schools to a panel of judges from industry and academia. The winning school will be named in May 2012.
